Décédé brutalement, Daniel se retrouve dans une sorte de purgatoire : le Transitus. Voulant retrouver sa bien-aimée, il essaye de persuader l'Ange de la Mort. C'est alors... Transitus est un bien étrange album. Musicalement, Ayreon confirme qu'il reste un pilier du metal progressif mais conceptuellement, on se retrouve avec une histoire à la Roméo et Juliette clichée, des monologues et dialogues alors que les personnages sont nombreux et une hyper dramatisation qui entache parfois sa musique.

Calling any of Ayreon's albums mere "albums" is almost a disservice. These albums are a series of interconnected rock operas that comprise an even greater meta-narrative. Of course, you can ignore all of that and just have fun. Migrator was envisioned as two albums, the first being more prog rock centric, while the second one is more prog-metal driven. Both are awesome. Print the lyrics, read them...take it all in...it's so worth it.

The album takes off nicely with David Longdon's "The Strangest Times", but then gets into immediate free fall and deeply underwater for the next few tracks, quite unexpectedly. Fortunately, it recovers with Nick D'Virgilio's "Apollo" (hey, this guy CAN write good music, although he hides this ability most of the time) and the remaining three tracks, one of which is another Longdon masterpiece. So in the end the final impression is somewhat in the positive range.

Fell in love with BBT recently, absolutely love the stories they tell and the music. Very sad to hear about David’s passing, listening now is quite moving, moved to tears from time to time, but we move on as I hope BBT will with David in our hearts.
